What’s it like working at Sodexo?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Sodexo appreciate their colleagues, who are consistently described as supportive, professional, and collaborative, with many forming lifelong friendships through their work. The teamwork and diverse workforce create a positive environment where people from different cultures work together effectively. Additionally, Sodexo offers good opportunities for those seeking their first FIFO experience, with a straightforward recruitment process.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Management practices can be inconsistent, with some managers lacking relevant experience or training, and communication between management, HR, and employees may sometimes be unclear. Staffing levels are often reported as insufficient, leading to substantial workloads with long hours and physically demanding tasks, particularly in housekeeping and utilities roles. Some employees have observed that career progression may be influenced by relationships, and employee support initiatives could be strengthened. The remuneration structure uses annualised wages, with superannuation calculated on base rates rather than all hours worked.

    Bad pay, good through contractor
The good thingsGood Crew and roster.
The challengesWhile it looks like sallery its actually annualised wages so you won't get super on all hours and you have to accrew your RnR hours. Better off going through a contractor

Advancement Influenced by Appearance, Not Merit
The good thingsI genuinely enjoyed working with my colleagues, who were consistently professional, supportive, and collaborative. Their teamwork made the day to day operations smoother and fostered a positive working environment despite the challenges posed by inconsistent leadership.
The challengesDuring my time working with Sodexo, I was approached multiple times by the village manager at the time about stepping into a leadership role, despite having only been with the company a short period of time. While I appreciated being considered, this created an uncomfortable situation as other employees who had formally applied for similar roles were told they had not been with the company long enough to be eligible. The repeated requests were surprising given the messaging provided to other team members. At times, comments were made that suggested personal appearance may have influenced the attention I was receiving, which further contributed to my discomfort with the situation. I ultimately declined the opportunity and asked that the requests stop. Experiences like this highlight the importance of transparent and consistent recruitment processes, as well as leadership practices that ensure all employees feel respected and fairly assessed based on merit, experience, and capability.

Extremely Toxic Workplace, Avoid at All Costs
The good thingsThe positive aspect of the role was the people you work alongside, as many colleagues are supportive and make challenging conditions more manageable.
The challengesMy experience working at Sodexo was extremely negative. The workplace culture is highly toxic, with poor treatment of staff and a management style that lacks respect, accountability, and professionalism. Employees are regularly spoken to as though they are lesser than, and expectations are often contradictory, creating a stressful and unsupportive work environment. The previous Management at Rocklea palms does not lead by example, and there are ongoing concerns around favouritism and conflicts of interest, including family members being promoted into roles they are not suitable for. This creates an unfair workplace where merit and performance do not appear to be valued. Overall, I would strongly caution anyone considering employment here. The culture, lack of support, and toxic management practices make this a very difficult and unhealthy place to work. I would recommend seeking employment elsewhere.
