Every member of the OPSM family cares deeply about eyes, our most precious natural assets. Our company creates career opportunities for those who love eyes too; and we work with communities, charities and sportspeople to improve vision while promoting the critical importance of good eye health. When the Optical Prescription Spectacle Makers store opened in Macquarie Street, Sydney in 1932, the vision was to help everyday lives by improving people’s sight. Managing your eye health is still our main focus, along with all the services we’ve developed over 80 years as OPSM.Source: this is an extract from the company’s own website

What’s it like working at OPSM?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at OPSM appreciate the customer interaction and the rewarding feeling of helping people see better, which can make a direct impact on someone's life. The supportive colleagues create a positive team environment and lasting friendships, whilst the staff product allowance for purchasing glasses is valued and renews annually. Additionally, there are learning opportunities in the optical industry, including dispensing certificates and company-run courses.

However, there are some potential challenges, such as KPI expectations that can be demanding with constant tracking and pressure to meet sales targets. Some employees have noted that in-store training can be limited, with new staff sometimes learning on the job. Pay levels and career progression opportunities may not always reflect the knowledge and skills required for the role. Management communication can vary, with upper management focusing primarily on performance metrics. The workload can be substantial, with employees sometimes working alone and managing multiple tasks, and retail hours include evenings and weekends, though hours have been reduced in some locations.

My employment OPSM was that traumatic I needed my health care professionals involvement.
The good thingsAssisting customers as best I could despite the lack of in store training.
The challengesThe in store training was virtually non existent. For such an important thing as eye care you would expect a much higher standard of training for the role. The treatment I experienced in the four months I was employed at OPSM was dreadful.

A nightmare of an optical store, both as a customer, and as a former employee. WOULD AVOID!!
The good thingsThe co-workers were the best part; made my shifts actually bearable, and always offered help!
The challengesManagement refusing to accept responsibility for their own issues, blaming lower staff and upper staff, and lying about co-workers after they left.
