What’s it like working at Officeworks?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the friendly and supportive team environment at Officeworks, with colleagues described as welcoming and helpful. The company offers flexible working arrangements, including work from home options for some roles, and provides a good environment for young people to develop workplace skills. Many employees also note that store-level managers are accommodating, particularly for those interested in career development.

However, there are some potential challenges, including understaffing which can create pressure during busy periods, and head office decisions that may not always align with store realities. Some employees feel that training and onboarding could be more comprehensive, and there are concerns about limited opportunities for internal promotion. Additionally, frequent leadership turnover at store level can affect team stability, and workload expectations can be demanding, particularly during peak times.

Poor experience driven by ego-driven UX management and uninclusive team dynamics.
The good thingsNice office space, some people were actually nice especially the developers in most teams.
The challengesThe biggest challenge was ineffective UX leadership. Direction was often unclear, expectations shifted frequently, and there was little meaningful guidance for designers. Instead of enabling the team, management often created confusion and then shifted responsibility downward when projects stalled. There was also a noticeable lack of mentorship and collaboration. Rather than fostering an environment where designers could grow and contribute, communication felt selective and exclusionary, with attention focused on a few preferred individuals while others were largely overlooked. Improving leadership capability, communication, and inclusive team practices would make a significant difference. UX teams rely heavily on strong guidance and collaboration, and without that foundation, even capable designers struggle to produce their best work.
