What’s it like working at YMCA?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at YMCA consistently highlight that working with children and families is one of the most rewarding aspects of their roles. Many appreciate their supportive and welcoming colleagues, noting that team members are professional and passionate about their work. Staff value YMCA's mission-driven approach and commitment to making a positive impact in the community, with several employees experiencing significant career growth and training opportunities over many years with the organisation.

However, there are some potential challenges that vary across different centres. Some employees have noted that management practices and workplace culture can differ significantly between locations, with concerns about communication consistency and team dynamics in certain centres. Workload and administrative responsibilities can be substantial, particularly for coordinators who may have limited non-contact time. Additionally, some staff have mentioned high turnover rates and inconsistent communication during periods of organisational change, which can impact team stability and operations.

Met the unprofessional people who not concerned about the work but about who comforts the manager.
The good thingsNothing that was likeable.
The challengesValue for employee, company values that they advertise which they fails to follow. Favoritism, no value for work totally a toxic workplace, not enjoyable at all. Poor Systems, no recognition. People are only recognized if they leave and come to office when there boss does. Sticking to your work timings are looked down and might be targeted. Only if you got to survive more than 5 years, you can stay forever, dont have to prove what are you getting paid for.

The good thingsSuper supporting and welcoming! I have been coaching for 10+ years and by far the most professional and supportive club I've been at. So may coaches are given opportunities to develop. Management are great and make everyone feel like a team.

management does not care about their employees
The good thingsWorking with the kids and junior staff
The challengesI cut down my hours and took some time off due to being constantly sick, struggling with mental health and physical injuries/chronic conditions. After only 2/3 months (with constant updates and occasional shifts), I messaged multiple supervisors about coming back on for regular hours and got completely ghosted. Honestly 0 sympathy or consideration for staff
