In 1948, Visy started out in Melbourne as a manufacturer of corrugated cardboard boxes. From these modest beginnings, it has since grown to become one of the world's leading packaging, paper and recycling companies. Now, Visy employs over 5,500 staff and operates in over 120 sites across Australia, New Zealand, Thailand and Vietnam and trading offices across Asia, Europe and the USA. Visy also has a 'sister' company, Pratt Industries USA, which employs a further 3,500 staff in North America. Sustainability is at the heart of everything Visy does. As well as providing packaging to some of the world's best known brands, Visy also offers recycling solutions. It's our goal to meet the needs of our customers, while efficiently using and reusing scarce resources.Source: this is an extract from the company's own website

What’s it like working at Visy?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Visy appreciate their colleagues and co-workers, who are frequently described as supportive, friendly, and helpful. The compensation is generally considered competitive and decent, with overtime opportunities available. Working in a 24/7 industry allows employees to gain substantial experience quickly, and the large organisation offers opportunities for progression and movement within the company.

However, there are some potential challenges. Management practices have been noted as an area for improvement, with concerns about decision-making, communication, and staff support. The workplace culture can be reactive and blame-oriented in some areas, with reports of high staff turnover. Equipment and machinery are sometimes outdated and require better maintenance. The workload can be demanding, with long hours expected and staff often covering multiple roles. Training and onboarding processes could be enhanced to provide better guidance for new employees, and work-life balance can be challenging, particularly for salaried staff working extended hours.

    Chaotic and reactive
The good things- Competitive salary - Met some genuinely supportive and friendly colleagues
The challengesThe environment was highly reactive, with frequent urgent requests and tight turnaround expectations. A strong blame-oriented culture was evident. Processes were inconsistently followed, with stakeholders operating in their own ways.
