The good thingsShell Energy brings an amazing blend of of culture, challenging work and flexibility. It's the type of culture that isn't forced, it just exists and everyone knows it. The energy and decarbonisation industry is a large and technical landscape, navigating it comes with it's challenges but it's amazing to learn about and be part of something that makes such an impact. To top it all off I have had the opportunity to meet some of the most amazing people in all my years of working.

Great projects, but leadership micromanagement undermines the experience
The good thingsSmart, collaborative peers. Most engineers and analysts are generous with their time and eager to solve problems together.
Interesting project exposure. The energy-transition focus means you’ll touch renewables, trading, and decarbonisation initiatives that look great on a resume.
Solid remuneration & benefits. Base salary and super are competitive, and the Brisbane office facilities are modern and well-located.
The challengesMicromanagement from senior leadership. My direct manager, routinely over-rode team decisions, changed priorities without notice, and required hourly progress updates, creating a climate of anxiety rather than trust.
Opaque career progression. Promotion criteria shifted mid-year and were communicated late, making goal-setting feel pointless.
Process over people. Heavy reliance on dashboards and KPIs meant nailing “the metric” mattered more than delivering real value or developing staff.
High turnover & knowledge loss. Frequent resignations left remaining team members back-filling roles for months, stretching morale and project timelines.
