What’s it like working at Patties Foods?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Patties Foods consistently praise the quality of their colleagues and the supportive team environment, noting that people are helpful, friendly, and experienced. Popular benefits include free food, particularly pies, and above award wages. The company's strong safety focus is appreciated, along with good in-house training and opportunities to expand skills through multi-skilling and development programmes.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Management approaches can vary across departments, with some employees experiencing more supportive leadership than others. Production roles often involve long shifts of 9.5 to 12 hours, which can be physically demanding and may impact work/life balance, particularly for those on afternoon, morning, or night shifts. Some employees indicate that onboarding could be more structured, and communication regarding shift expectations and staffing levels could be clearer. The workplace can be understaffed at times, contributing to workload pressures in a fast-paced production environment.

Long, physically demanding shifts with limited overtime benefit.
The good thingsThe team is diverse and experienced, and there are individuals on the floor who make an effort to support and guide new starters. The work itself is straightforward once understood, and the environment can suit people who are comfortable with fast-paced, physically demanding production roles. There is also consistency in available hours for those able to work long shifts.
The challengesThe role involves long, variable shifts, typically ranging from around 9.5 to 12 hours, with no fixed finish time. This expectation was not clearly communicated prior to starting and can make the role physically demanding and difficult to plan around. These extended shifts are generally treated as standard hours within the weekly roster rather than attracting overtime on a daily basis, which may feel like long working days without additional compensation. Onboarding and training felt unstructured, with limited opportunity for guided learning or clarification. Communication can be inconsistent, and language barriers may make it harder for new starters to integrate. High turnover appears to impact morale, with staff frequently required to train new employees, contributing to fatigue and a more pressured environment.

A terrible experience. Everyday was filled with stress and tears
The good thingsOnly positives would be making connections with other AMs within the food service team, and the free food
The challengesToxic and unapproachable management, no mentorship or support, unrealistic work load and pressure on delivering sales

    Fun challenging role.
The good thingsMost people I ask say the people and I would have to agree. Great team environment. Management have all changed and are creating a new culture. Strong safety focus.
The challengesLack of training, if you can't think on your feet then you will struggle for the first few weeks. Lack of communication. Under-staffed.
