What’s it like working at MLG Oz?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at MLG Oz appreciate their workmates and colleagues, noting that people on site are supportive and create a good team environment. Site managers and supervisors are frequently praised as knowledgeable and supportive. The company provides good exposure to mining operations and is considered a solid entry-level opportunity for gaining experience and training. Employees also value the family-oriented culture, with approachable upper management and a small team feel despite the company's rapid growth.

However, there are some potential challenges. Upper management and leadership can be inconsistent, with gaps between what is communicated in Perth and what happens on site. Communication from management may be inconsistent at times, and raising concerns occasionally leads to misunderstandings. The workload can be high with expectations to work long hours, whilst pay levels may not always reflect the effort required. Some employees have observed that safety procedures are not always implemented as consistently as documented, with pressure to prioritise productivity. Additionally, equipment maintenance and camp facilities could be improved.

Land a good site & it’s a good job—end up at the wrong one, then run for hills.
The good thingsAt this particular site, a key strength is the people—most colleagues and staff are supportive, approachable, and genuinely great to work with. It also offers strong opportunities to develop a broader skill set, with employees able to become multi-skilled and gain experience across different areas specific to this site.
The challengesUnfortunately, not all sites within the company are equal. My initial placement (at a site I won’t name) was extremely stressful, with clear issues around workplace behaviour and a lack of support. There were no comfortable or trusted avenues to raise concerns, which made the situation worse. Management at that site operated very much as a purple circle, and if you didn’t fit their mould, you were singled out and pushed to breaking point. Had my transfer not gone through, I would have resigned within three months. The culture felt immature and unprofessional. There was a clear contradiction between what was said and what was expected—staff were told to follow fatigue laws and take breaks, but were simultaneously pushed to increase loads in a way that made legal compliance unrealistic. The focus was firmly on tonnes over people and compliance. On top of this, the equipment was in poor condition—ageing machines with very high hours, frequent breakdowns, and ongoing parts shortages.

The good thingsNothing good with MLG unfortunately. Worked like a trojan and the pay is disgusting for the workload
The challengesEverything with this company is a challenge. No support, bad communication low pay and no support.

A role with valuable exposure, but cultural challenges exist
The good thingsMy time at MLG Oz provided solid exposure to mining operations and the opportunity to work with some genuinely supportive coworkers.
The challengesI found aspects of the leadership culture challenging at times. Several processes, particularly around safety, were not always implemented as consistently as the written procedures suggest, which aligns with feedback noted by other employees about gaps between documented safety protocols and day‑to‑day practice. Communication from management could also be inconsistent, and raising procedural concerns occasionally led to misunderstandings rather than collaborative problem‑solving. Some reviewers have described similar experiences regarding management style and workplace dynamics. While there are certainly positive individuals within the team, the overall environment may not suit everyone, particularly those in roles that rely heavily on clear communication and consistent support. I hope the company continues to invest in cultural development and leadership capability, as there is strong potential for improvement.
