    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate the supportive and collaborative team culture at Breakthru, with colleagues who are willing to help and celebrate successes together. The work is described as meaningful and rewarding, providing genuine opportunities to make a difference in the lives of people with disabilities. Staff value the flexible working arrangements and opportunities for professional development, along with the joy of working with clients.

However, there are some potential challenges, including management approaches that can vary across sites and levels, with some communication gaps between upper management and frontline staff. Pay rates tend to be below industry standards, though salary packaging is available. Workloads can be demanding with high caseloads and KPI expectations, and there is staff turnover that could benefit from improved retention strategies. Some employees have found career progression opportunities limited, and tight budgets due to funding frameworks require creative resource management.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great Place to Work with a Genuine Purpose
The good thingsWorking at Breakthru has been an incredibly rewarding experience. Every day provides the opportunity to make a difference in people's lives by helping them overcome barriers, build confidence and achieve employment goals. What stands out most is the supportive team culture. Colleagues are always willing to share knowledge, celebrate successes and work together to achieve the best outcomes for participants. There is a strong focus on collaboration, continuous improvement and professional development. The role is varied and meaningful, with opportunities to build relationships with job seekers, employers and community organisations. Breakthru also provides opportunities for career growth and internal progression, allowing employees to develop new skills and advance their careers while continuing to support the community. If you're looking for a workplace where you can make a positive impact, be supported and have opportunities to grow professionally, I would highly recommend Breakthru
The challengesWorking in IEA can be incredibly rewarding, but it also requires resilience and adaptability. Supporting participants who may be experiencing complex barriers to employment can be challenging, and not every day will go as planned. Career Coaches need to be able to manage competing priorities, have difficult conversations, and remain focused on positive outcomes even when progress is gradual. As a Not-for-Profit organisation, salaries may be lower than those offered in some private sector roles. However, Breakthru offers salary packaging benefits, which can increase your take-home pay, along with the opportunity to work in a role that provides genuine purpose and a positive impact on people's lives. For those who are passionate about helping others, enjoy building relationships, and want to make a difference in their community, the rewards of the role far outweigh the challenges.

The challengesNo funding to improve facilities or infrastructure. Toxic work culture in multiple sites. Despite complaints to HR toxic people allowed to thrive

Great team and flexibility, but poor management, low pay, and a poorly handled redundancy.
The good thingsOne of the aspects I valued most about my role with Breakthru/Royal Rehab was the supportive and collaborative team environment. My Team Leader and colleagues were incredibly knowledgeable, approachable, and always willing to provide guidance and support. I genuinely enjoyed working alongside them each day and learning from their experience. The management team was also highly supportive, understanding, and responsive, which contributed to a positive workplace culture. Additionally, the flexibility of the role allowed me to effectively balance my professional responsibilities with my family commitments, which I greatly appreciated.
The challengesThere appeared to be a disconnect between upper management decisions and the needs of both clients and frontline staff. Client outcomes and continuity of support were not always prioritised. Pay rates were below comparable roles in the sector despite high workloads, complex client needs, and significant KPI expectations. There were ongoing challenges with management within the Dubbo office, including poor communication and a lack of respect for staff expertise and role boundaries. The redundancy process was poorly managed, with limited notice and unrealistic expectations around client transitions. Greater support, clearer direction, and more empathy for both staff and clients would have improved the process significantly.
