What’s it like working at Arcare?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Arcare consistently highlight that working with residents is the most rewarding aspect of their role, enjoying the opportunity to get to know them and hear about their lives. Many appreciate the friendly and supportive team environment, with colleagues who are welcoming and helpful. Several staff members note that management is supportive, providing encouragement and regular check-ins. Employees also value the staff benefits and incentives such as food trucks, gift cards, and gym memberships, as well as the work/life balance with flexibility around working from home. The new and well-maintained facilities create a comfortable environment for both staff and residents.

However, there are some potential challenges. Some employees have noted that support from upper management can be inconsistent, with concerns about communication and frequent management changes. Staffing levels can be challenging, with employees sometimes covering multiple roles, particularly when shifts cannot be filled at short notice. The workload can be demanding, with high resident allocations and expectations around documentation in a fast-paced environment. Some staff have experienced workplace culture challenges, including limited teamwork in certain areas and feeling that efforts are not always recognised meaningfully. Several employees have mentioned that pay rates could be improved to better reflect the demands of the role, and some have observed that task timing can take priority over other aspects of care.

Worst management system, a lot to improve.
The good thingsThe only good thing about this place is the friendly residents.
The challengesManagement should take time to observe and listen to staff on a regular basis. In my experience, there has not been a single occasion where a manager has approached staff to ask how they are doing or to check in on their wellbeing. The environment often feels political and toxic. It also seems that the effort staff put into their work is not truly recognised by management, as appreciation is limited to emails rather than being expressed directly or meaningfully in person.

Good for experience, but heartbreaking to see the decline from Arrival to Discharge due to the care.
The good thingsSeeing the residents when I would come in, learning about their lives and achievements, as well as a few of the staff who genuinely loved what they did.
The challengesWhile there are many wonderful staff members here, the facility staff prioritizes task-timing over the quality of resident life. There is a noticeable lack of resident autonomy; many residents expressed feeling like "farm animals" or "chess pieces" because they are moved without notice or choice in their daily routines. I witnessed frequent neglect where residents' choices, from what they wear to when they go to sleep, were ignored to suit staff schedules (sitting on their phone at the carers station or poorly documenting to stretch time). The morning shifts are often rushed and physically rough, while the evening shifts see residents put to bed early so staff can "finish documentation". It was heart breaking to see residents feeling ignored or misunderstood, particularly when staff assumed cognitive impairment where there was none. I chose to leave because the work culture & values did not support the level of dignity the residents deserve. Again there are still some amazing workers.

The residents are the only good thing. Toxic culture that won't change.
The good thingsThe residents. They are the only reason to turn up to each shift.
The challengesToxic!!! Toxic staff and toxic management that don't do anything. They just say they'll try to fix issues but that don't do anything. They wait until you're burnt out and mentally drained and you end up quitting. The bad workers get to stay and the people that actually care for the residents have no choice but to leave. I would never recommend this company to workers or families.
