Management is described as dedicated, approachable, and supportive, creating a positive work culture where employees feel valued and motivated. Great work for experienced paramedics and junior/new graduate paramedics.
The good thingsWorking as a Paramedic at events was interesting when compared to a normal Ambulance Service shift.
The challengesSome event clients can be challenging, but it is all about customer service, not just patient care. Long periods of no work in standby mode and then suddenly very busy. Working in a hybrid organisation that uses by salaried and volunteer clinicians brings its challenges.

A great organisation with fantastic Health and Medical Services Management Team.
The good thingsA great organisation that boasts a significant amount of opportunity within the Health and Medical Services Setting. St John Ambulance SA is at the forefront as an Event Medical/Event First Aid provider. In fact, I'd argue that they offer more than just 'first aid' as they are well known for. It's a great environment to work in with a very dynamic work setting, you get to meet a range of clinicians and those looking to find a career in healthcare. Health Care Professionals have access to up to date equipment including LifePak15 monitors and other advanced equipment. All clinicians, within the Event Medic level, receive training on advanced skills - it's incredible! Management is always dedicated, approachable always on the ground willing to support those on the front line. The management team looks after all staff, both volunteer and career staff, ensuring that they're well supported. It is evident that the management have a clear understanding on the expectations of their clients and ensure that they meet the demand of their customers.
The challengesSome days can be a little slow, but then again, you may have some very busy days. There is still a volunteer v staff split, which can create a bit of an awkward tension. All of the staff I've worked with have been great, however, the volunteer arm is very difficult to work with, they like to stir drama. Nonetheless, I don't let that phase me.

A fulfilling, dynamic, and positive place to work as a clinician.
The good thingsWorking at St Johns has been very fulfilling, offering a dynamic environment where collaboration with a diverse range of people enhances every aspect of the job. As a Paramedic, I've had the opportunity to apply my clinical skills in challenging situations at major events/venues and during work in patient transport, which has been both rewarding and enriching. The engaging training makes me feel well-prepared to support people when they need it most. No shortage of shifts available either! Having worked for similar companies previously, what sets St Johns apart is the fantastic support from operational management. Their approachability, guidance, and care for team members create a positive work culture where everyone feels valued and motivated.
The challengesThe biggest challenge initially is how different it is to traditional paramedic work. Whilst it can be fun and fantastic for self-development, it can catch you off guard, but the initial and ongoing support provided really makes this a non-issue.
