What’s it like working at RACT?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees consistently praise their colleagues, describing them as friendly, supportive and professional, with a strong sense of camaraderie amongst team members. Staff appreciate RACT's Tasmanian community focus and the opportunity to contribute meaningful work that benefits ordinary Tasmanians. The collaborative and supportive culture is valued, along with opportunities for professional development and career growth through leadership and coaching training. Employees also value the employee benefits, including insurance discounts and free roadside assistance.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Some employees have noted concerns about management practices, including communication challenges and varying levels of support across different departments. Workload can be demanding during peak periods, with priorities sometimes shifting unexpectedly. Several staff members have observed a shift towards sales and revenue targets, with increased pressure to meet sales goals. Compensation may not be as competitive as other organisations in the market, and opportunities for advancement can be limited due to the organisation's scale. Additionally, legacy technology platforms and systems are being updated, though some processes can be complex whilst this transition occurs.

Some great times and the usual corporate complaints. Feels nice to be part of Tasmanian history.
The good thingsContributing to work to improve the lives of ordinary Tasmanians. A variety of challenges with a stimulating team and colleagues with a breadth of backgrounds and expertise. An emphasis on company culture and the ongoing drive for improvement. If you unironically lean in on the support available, you will have a good time. Good opportunities for professional development, leadership and coaching training etc.
The challengesMost managers report being chronically busy, too many meetings etc. Project prioritization with limited technology resources while updating legacy platforms (though our Tech team are great). Of course everyone thinks their project is the most important and that the current thing is a waste of time. Others have noted nepotism, which I don't see- most ELT and CEO were recruited from outside of Tasmania. Company laptops could be better.

Trust me, avoid at all costs
The good thingsSome lovely people who are passionate about their work and trying their hardest to support the members.
The challengesThe company has shifted from being a company that cares about its members and advocating for important issues to a company that is now just trying to feed more and more unnecessary products to its members. Pet insurance - really? Biggest challenge is an incompetent leadership group that feeds the toxicity that's rampant across the company. While there have been people who have tried to make positive changes, they often leave after giving up or quietly shuffled off after showing any potential that demonstrate their leader's incompetence. Also does not pay anywhere near market rate for roles.

A pathetic work environment. Stay clear of it.
The good thingsThe good things at RACT? The people that have been there for over 10 years who respect all their colleagues and get the job done with professionalism
The challengesLike previous posts - it's the management! There is so much infighting between department "leaders" masked behind smiles. Nepotism is throughout the RACT culture - family members and best friends are in high management roles where it is clear behaviours and expertise from some are questionable. Incompetent, unprofessional and a toxic environment - stay clear of it.
