What’s it like working at Oz Child?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees value the passionate and caring colleagues at Oz Child, finding the meaningful work with children and families rewarding. Staff appreciate the good salary and benefits, flexibility in some areas, and opportunities for skill development with a focus on evidence-based practice.

However, there are some potential challenges, including high workloads as teams balance increasing demand with limited resources, varying leadership approaches across different teams, multiple recording systems affecting consistency, and the need for overtime during busy periods. Work flexibility is not always consistent across all parts of the organisation.

A Job That Matters, With People Who Care
The good thingsThe best thing about OzChild is the people. Every day I get to work with passionate, caring and ridiculously dedicated humans who genuinely want to make things better for children, young people and families. I've been lucky enough to work across many teams, sites and programs, and have met some truly incredible people along the way. I've enjoyed being trusted to take on new challenges, improve the way we work, support others to succeed and contribute to a positive workplace culture. No workplace is perfect, but having a job where the work matters and being surrounded by people who care makes it a pretty special place to be.
The challengesLike many not-for-profit organisations, OzChild operates in a fast-paced environment where teams are often balancing increasing demand with limited resources. Continued investment in systems, technology and workforce planning would help improve consistency across locations and reduce pressure on staff during periods of change.

Extremely high work load built on burning out staff
The good things- Salary - Overall work with children and foster carers can be very rewarding - Good experience short term
The challenges- Expected to work over time, case management runs on employees that are willing to burn themselves out for the role and lack work life balance and boundaries. - Work flexibility is not equal accross the organisation. - Reflective practice is not offered to case managers but offered to leadership. - Poor supervision model. - Extremely high and unmanageable workload, with management continuously adding to it. - No clear understanding of procedure across the team, with supervisors being unable to support new staff, directing them to ask team members. - Case managers that have been in the role for a longer period become burnt out and create an uncomfortable work environment, team leaders do not address the clear toxic culture created rather making jokes about their inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour. - Parental leave was reduced significantly. - Management are aware of emotionally manipulative carers yet allow them to continue fostering.
