What’s it like working at Nyrstar?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate their colleagues, describing them as dedicated and great to work with on the ground. The roster system with 4 days off is valued, along with interesting and challenging work that provides learning opportunities. The pay is considered good for shift work, and the regional location offers a country lifestyle close to home.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about management support and communication at various levels, the condition of facilities requiring maintenance, workplace culture and accountability in some areas, overtime expectations beyond the advertised roster, and ongoing attention needed for safety practices.

A fantastic career opportunity in regional South Australia.
The good thingsThe people I work/have worked with are dedicated, loyal and willing to achieve great things. I've had opportunity to be developed through on-the-job learning, exposure and formal education and promoted into different roles. Working regionally provides a country lifestyle with the benefit of working for a larger organisation that provides reasonable benefits, without being in a remote location away from family. Nyrstar Port Pirie offer a range of benefits including additional paid parental leave, flexible work arrangements and for some roles that can suitably be based in Adelaide, Nyrstar have an office in the CBD.
The challengesThe smelting market over the past decade or more has made it difficult for Nyrstar to be well positioned to offer employees consistent benefits and in some cases growth. However, as Nyrstar work closely with State and Federal government and government consider policies to support critical metals and smelting in Australia, I am hopeful that smelting in Australia and the western world will improve and as a result, Nyrstar Port Pirie and it's employees will have opportunities well into the future.

Toxic environment, tradesmen accepting of bad practices with unskilled tradesmen at shift level.
The good thingsRange of work to be completed on such an aged site.
The challengesManagement are incompetent on every level. Shift electricians think that they are the same level as God.

Has all the potential to be great, There's just one thing.... Managment.
The good thingsMy work colleagues, proximity to my home.
The challengesrecruitment ads say 5/4 even time roster, little did you know you are expected to work your entire 226-hour overtime bank of hours. Which is not an even time roster, it's an extra day every roster. If you don't volunteer, they will do it for you. Management is disconnected, defensive, narcissistic
