What’s it like working at McDonald's?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the friendly team environment at McDonald's, with many noting the opportunity to work alongside supportive colleagues who feel like friends. The role is seen as a great first job that builds confidence and provides valuable introduction to work life, including understanding rosters and developing communication skills. Staff value the employee benefits such as discounted food and free drinks, along with flexible shifts that make it easier to balance work with school. Additionally, employees appreciate the learning opportunities in areas such as food hygiene, customer service, and working in a fast-paced environment.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Some employees have noted that management can be inconsistent, with shift allocation sometimes appearing to be based on personal relationships rather than work ethic. The fast-paced nature of the work, particularly during rush hours, can create a high-stress environment. Shift allocation for casual and part-time employees can be inconsistent, with some receiving limited hours. Dealing with difficult customers can be challenging, and the training process may vary, with a learn-as-you-go approach that can leave some feeling underprepared initially.

Great first job experience that teaches you a lot!
The good thingsI have loved working with peers and like-minded, motivated people. It's a lot of fun to be part of a team that feels like a group of friends. The recruitment process was simple and straightforward, and the training was great. I have learned a lot from my time working here.
The challengesI feel as though progression through roles depends on how much the management team likes you. They tend to favour people just because they're friends, so it's hard to get promoted if you don't have close relationships with the managers. During rush hours, the management team tends to get angry and lash out, sometimes using personal insults.
