What’s it like working at KBR?

    AI summary of recent reviews

KBR offers some notable benefits, including competitive compensation and reliable payroll systems. Employees particularly value working alongside skilled team members and appreciate the exposure to diverse, complex projects that the company handles. The company also provides some workplace perks and facilities that employees appreciate.

However, employees have identified several areas for improvement, particularly regarding management practices which could benefit from modernisation and better communication. There are concerns about limited career development opportunities and inconsistent professional support. The work structure and allocation of responsibilities could be more organised, with clearer direction from leadership teams.

Horrible. I wouldn't recommend this business to anyone.
The good thingsOnly good thing about this business was their initial offer. And the parking was free.
The challengesYou don't receive pay rises, nor are there 12 month reviews. Managers everywhere with no idea what the work entails, EXTREMELY high turnover rate over 12 months. Those who do stay are treated like machines rather than people, as they have all the knowledge retention. No progression of career, isolation from other teams. No work life balance.

A job but not a careerIt's a huge corporation with the usual corporation tropes. There's a lot of box ticking events, training, and emails about opportunities, inclusion, work/life balance etc., but I've not seen this in practice. With a dozen or so layers of management, there's more managers above than team members. You will hear the phrase "The Company's Position" a lot. There are options to work in the office, which are shared spaces. Parking is first in best dressed, and while convenient, is more expensive than general public alternatives. In most cities the officers are close to public transport. Pro: Pay is competitive. Cons: Despite the size of the company, each team feels very siloed and isolated. My Experience: I was told there was a need for people with my skill set for up and coming projects, but in the short-term I was needed to work on an old legacy project, just to get it across the line--because of sudden staff turnover. In reality, I was moved from one old project to another, and told there was no opportunities anywhere else in the company. In the three years I was there, I did not see anyone promoted from within my team and staff turn-around was the highest I've ever seen--well over 100% per year. A lot of staff, who I felt were functioning adequately given the complexity of the project, were not kept on after their probationary period. All other staff resigned and moved on. This high staff turn over resulted in a perpetual state of being under staffed. Managers take credit for all the work. Staff reviews focus on negatives. Met some great people, but staff morale was generally low.

Good for juniors and seniors seeking technical experience
The good thingsexposed to large-scale and complex projects
The challengesYou can only be promoted or get involved in exciting opportunities if you are inside the golden ring. KBR in Australia is the definition of inequality.
