Avoid, especially if you're new to the industry. It will set you up to be behind industry standards.
The good thingsFellow Pathology Collectors were lovely.
The challengesManagement in my local area (at all levels) was impossible to work for. They were inexperienced and seemed to flounder in their roles, while trying to assert power over long-serving staff by constantly sending texts or having meetings with a belittling undertone. Processes and technology at Dorevitch are ancient compared to other companies (need to take many tubes of blood for the same tests that most companies would just need two). Severely understaffed due to high turnover. Drs are annoyed because the rooms in their clinics aren't being opened due to lack of staff. Avoid Dorevitch if you can. It took me many months to recover from the ordeal after I quit.

Avoid Dorevitch Microbiology at all costs!
The good thingsNone in my 4 years as a Microbiologist there.
The challengesIt is shocking to find such a miserable place like Dorevitch Microbiology in a world class city like Melbourne. The premises and the staff are in an utter state of neglect. There is no investment whatsoever in the facilities, technology or in the Lab Information System which dates back to the 1990's. The HOD Microbiology is selfish and lazy. He ignores any intellectual input from Microbiologists. Neither is he invested in any way in the welfare of his staff. One wonders what does it take to become an HOD these days in this part of the world. The leadership lacks integrity, depth and character. Overall it is a dehumanising experience for any Microbiologist to work there. The organization does not know how to treat people as people, let alone doctors. If you choose to have zero job satisfaction with no career goals, look no further; Dorevitch Micro is the place for you.
