What’s it like working at City Chic?

    AI summary of recent reviews
City Chic offers a notably positive team environment where employees can build strong relationships with both colleagues and customers. Staff particularly value the generous employee discount program and the opportunity to make a difference in customers' lives through positive interactions. When paired with effective store-level management, these elements create an engaging work environment that many employees find rewarding.

However, employees face certain challenges, including pressure to meet performance targets and maintaining work-life balance. The relationship with upper management can be demanding, particularly regarding performance expectations and communication. The experience can vary significantly depending on store location and management, with some employees noting that these factors greatly influence their overall work experience.

Don't work for this company, go anywhere else but here.
The good thingsMeeting some of the most beautiful customers and the staff discount.
The challengesManagers from other stores like to talk and cause trouble for each other. Unsupported casuals, it was just a job to them. Regional manager and owner are very rude and put you down and set unrealistic store goals.

    Wouldn't work there again
The good thingsSmall Team. No reliable casual staff. Discount was ok when they didn't take it away. Store manager was great but upper management talked down to you like you are a child.
The challengesThe pressure of making budgets. The rest of you KPI'S would be great but you still would get your head bitten off for not doing better

Great learning experience, wouldn't recommend though.
The good thingsWorking here as a casual was fantastic, I got lucky in being able to work close to full time hours as a casual before I was asked to sign a part time contract which was a hit to my pay. I loved the team I worked with and the culture really does make you feel like part of a family. Felt great being able to empower others and bring people out of their shells. I really enjoyed visual merchandising and looking after the stock but there was a lot of work to do with it. If you're an extrovert you will thrive in this environment but it is tough on introverts. I learnt some fantastic things working here, but it wasn't easy.
The challengesWhen you have a great manager everything is great but there is a lot of pressure and unrealistic standards set from head office and regionals that creates a super high turnover rate of management. In my year there we went through three managers in one store alone. Some customers can be difficult and KPI targets can be difficult to meet, as with any retail position. Towards the end our store was incredibly poorly managed and there was no support for staff, there was also a very clique-y culture that made it difficult to voice problems that were occurring. There is a ridiculous amount of extra work that is expected of you on top of sales and it can't always be finished in the allotted time frames. Staff are often left working on their own, especially in quieter stores, and it can be very isolating.
