What’s it like working at Cex?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate their colleagues at store level, describing them as knowledgeable and supportive, with many forming lasting friendships. The company is welcoming of diverse backgrounds and offers flexibility in dress codes. Staff enjoy working with technology and encountering interesting items, along with benefits such as staff discounts.

However, there are some potential challenges, including upper management communication and support, with store managers facing unrealistic workload expectations that often require unpaid overtime. Pay rates are lower than comparable retail positions, training can be limited, and staff retention rates are low with burnout common in management roles.

    Worst job experience.
The good thingsGetting to play games sometimes and seeing some cool games and tech was fun, and there were a few good people amongst the staff.
The challengesCompared to most other retail jobs, the pay was pretty poor, which is worse considering there’s extra things involved in this job compared to normal retail, including customers being aggressive and threatening etc more frequently due to the nature of the job. Upper management also expect assistant and store managers to work unpaid overtime every day, and there are a lot of daily expectations for all staff which some days is extremely unrealistic and super stressful to try and get through. Very little training and then managers getting mad when you don’t know what to do or make a mistake due to the lack of training, frequently had to ask managers from other stores across the country how to do things even though it’s not their job to teach that. Horrible toxic culture within the company, with many incidents and people that needed to be reported to hr, but due to rude or no responses, many people didn’t bother trying to report anymore, and a lot of targeted behaviour as a result.

Its an ejoyable but very stressful experience. Dont work here if you want open communication.
The good thingsDay to day in store is great and has great people
The challengesUpper management refuse to communicate anything, offer any support and will often just lie so you will leave them alone, an unfortunately isolating experience where they do not you to succede

Somehow both one of the best and worst jobs I've had. Expect whiplash from this love/hate experience
The good thingsStaff on a store level were absolutely amazing and very knowledgeable. Company is very welcoming of diverse backgrounds, abilities, experiences and interests. Role can indeed be fun and appealing, you come across interesting people and items.
The challengesUpper management staff were incredibly unsupportive, lacked communication and had little respect for store staff. There are too many responsibilities for the store management team to complete in a single day, leading to unrealistic expectations from upper management, unless you worked extra hours unpaid. Burnout is also very common within the management roles, and staff retention rates are ridiculously low, with major staff shifts at least every 6 months.
