Highly demanding role with difficult to meet KPIs, yet quite interesting work.
The good thingsMeeting many clients across various industries throughout Queensland primarily. The pay at the time was quite good. Some of the other auditors were great to work with. Working independently most of the time, although some more state team get togethers would have been nice.
The challengesKPIs which were very difficult to meet unless you worked at night often and travelled after hours.
A UK based head office not understanding Australia's geography and cultural differences in their expectations of auditors. UK based competency assessments which had little to no relation to Australian industry.
Auditors often approached audits and evidence required by clients very differently despite auditing to the same standard with the same training which made it difficult following another auditor and finding items that should have been picked up or clients doing things a certain way because "the auditor said so" even when it was not required. I still see this outside of the company working with their clients from time to time in 2025.
