Today, ANCA is a market leader in quality CNC grinding machines and autonomous manufacturing solutions. After 50 years of working with industry, we continue to find new ways to deliver products that respond to market needs. Australian Numerical Controls and Automation (ANCA) was founded in 1974 by Pat McCluskey and Pat Boland in Melbourne, Australia, where the company is still based. Although the two engineers had different backgrounds – one academic and one technical and trade – their skills complemented each other, and they were like-minded in their drive to produce world class computer numerical controls (CNC).

What’s it like working at ANCA?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate the supportive colleagues and strong teamwork at ANCA, along with the cutting-edge technology and world-class products that have global impact. The pay is above market rates, work-life balance is generally good, and the founders and senior staff are approachable.

However, there are some potential challenges, including frequent management changes that have affected team dynamics, processes and organisation that could be improved with better standardisation, engineering's significant influence on business decisions, fluctuating market demand creating periods of uncertainty, and communication across global operations that could be enhanced in the fast-paced environment.

It used to be a very good company
The good thingsThe travel opportunities and benefits are excellent, especially if you're single. The founders and senior staff are approachable and easy to work with, and the work–life balance is generally good. There are many talented people in the company, but they are often either underutilised or overloaded due to inefficient resource allocation.
The challengesChaotic management has interfered too much with product development. Poor decisions often go unaccountable despite costing the company significant time and money. Instead of clear ownership, weak ideas are backed by groups, making accountability difficult. Engineering also holds excessive influence, which has slowed and constrained product development.

A company where Engineering has total control.
The good thingsThe technology and engineering focus is to be admire. The people of production are very cohesive and with the right culture. Payment is above the market which is really good. Fantastic Aussie success story.
The challengesThe recent management changes at the end 2024, forgot to look after the culture. I felt that I became a number for the company. The way the brought this new corporate structure was flaw, creating a toxic environment of mistrust. Also, I can see that Engineering has too much power in all aspects of the business. Sometimes, the arrogance become an obstacle to push products into the market, controlled by just few people that make the decision and direction of the business, independently of the market demands.

Some interesting work at times, but has its drawbacks.
The good thingsSome of the machines are interesting and have an impact of many consumer products around the world.
The challengesVery disorganised and wasteful. Company structure is very cumbersome, often creates confusion, lack of direction / focus and generates frustration. Business is tie to a fluctuating market demand, which means uncertainty at times (and stress).
