What’s it like working at Aesop?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate the generous product discounts and free product allocation at Aesop, which helps them learn about and promote the brand. The extensive training opportunities and ongoing education support professional development, whilst many describe the company culture as nurturing, respectful, and passionate. Employees also enjoy working in beautifully designed stores and value the excellent benefits, including various leave options and perks.

However, there are some potential challenges, such as communication from management and head office that could be clearer and more transparent. Career progression opportunities can be limited, particularly for casual retail staff, with unclear advancement pathways. Shift allocation for casual employees can be competitive due to low staff turnover, and some employees have noted that salaries are below market rates. Additionally, there can be high expectations around KPIs and maintaining the Aesop standard, which may feel demanding during quieter trading periods.

Toxic culture, poor facialist training, and no genuine support at Aesop.
The good things50% discount on products.
The challengesMy experience at Aesop has been extremely disappointing. The culture is toxic, with little transparency or genuine support. Facials training was poorly managed and led by Lisa Reynolds, whose approach felt more like intimidation than guidance. When I became unwell, I was denied the chance to complete my training or receive clarity on next steps. Instead of support, I was cornered, pushed out, and ultimately terminated under unfair pretences. Management, particularly Maryann Walker, appeared disingenuous, with no support from my store manager, and my probation review and termination letter contained inaccuracies seemingly designed to protect the company rather than reflect reality. Aesop promotes values it does not practice, and I share this to raise awareness for others considering employment here.

Amazing work and an amazing workplace.
The good thingsGood discounts and perks as part of the team. Great working place and time management. Comptent managament has helped create a great workplace.
The challengesThe ability to move ahead and to achieve newer and better things were limited not by resources or availabilities, but by the lack of showcasing the opportunities open.
