ACFS Port Logistics (ACFS) was founded by Terry and Arthur Tzaneros in December 2005, with the vision to create one of Australia’s premier warehousing, transport and freight logistics companies. Since its inception, the company has built a strong customer base consisting of some of Australia’s largest blue chip Importers and Exporters. ACFS is the largest privately owned Container Logistics operator in Australia, moving over 350,000 TEU annually, and employs in excess of 500 staff nationally ACFS’s container freight station activities are underpinned by extensive knowledge and experience across the warehousing, transport and freight sectors. This has helped build a comprehensive portfolio of facilities and clientele in Sydney, Melbourne, and Brisbane, with further expansion into Fremantle by July 2015. Facilities are strategically located in port locations in order to maximise quick and efficient utilisation of the wharf , with western facilities in Sydney and Melbourne strategically utilised to compliment the diverse clientele base across the metropolitan areas. What’s it like working at ACFS?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees at ACFS appreciate their hardworking colleagues, particularly drivers and warehouse staff who are supportive and professional. Many note that pay is competitive and there are opportunities to earn more. Some also value the straightforward nature of the work and the ability to work independently once familiar with their role.

However, there are some potential challenges, including old and poorly maintained equipment that requires more regular servicing and upgrades. Management communication could be improved, with a need for more consistency in follow-through and constructive feedback. Training is limited, with new staff sometimes learning on the job without structured guidance. Additionally, workload can be demanding during busy periods, and staff turnover is high across various roles, which can impact workplace stability.

Excessive workloads, inadequate pay and a workplace culture lacking fairness.
The good thingsWorked with some good colleagues, who no longer work there, who shared knowledge in the transport industry.
The challengesMy experience working there was disappointing to put it lightly. The workload was excessive, and I was underpaid for the level of responsibility and effort expected. The workplace culture was challenging, with too much focus on reporting colleagues rather than genuine teamwork. The hierarchy was obvious, with a clear trickle-down effect in how staff were managed and treated. A workplace built on fair pay, reasonable workloads, mutual respect and accountability at every level would make a significant difference.

Poor culture, inadequate training and serious operational problems
The good thingsDuring my time at ACFS Port Logistics, I have seen the workplace culture and general operation deteriorate significantly. Staff turnover is extremely high across permanent employees, casuals, labour-hire workers, supervisors and warehouse managers. Several managers have attempted to improve the site, but the same underlying problems continue. Supervisors often appear burned out, and communication from some members of management can be angry and aggressive rather than constructive. Training is extremely limited. New employees are often placed directly into jobs and expected to learn from whoever is available. Because many experienced workers have left, staff are sometimes trained by people who are still inexperienced. Proper procedures, supervision and consistent standards appear to be lacking. Heavy reliance on labour-hire and temporary visa workers also makes it difficult to build a stable, experienced workforce.
The challengesPromotions can appear to be based more on friendships than on experience or suitability. Employee relations and communication are also poor. Commitments made to workers regarding matters such as RDOs, annual leave & payment have not always been followed through properly. Employees who raise concerns can feel that they are being spoken down to rather than listened to or supported. The TWU’s presence at the workplace has felt practically non-existent, with very little visible representation or effective support for workers. Employees are largely left to deal with workplace problems themselves. There are some hardworking employees at ACFS who genuinely try to keep the operation running, but they are being let down by poor systems, inadequate training, inconsistent management and a culture that burns people out. ACFS needs a major change in leadership, safety, maintenance, training, accountability and the way employees are treated before it can become a stable and professional workplace.
