Since 1973, we have been contributing to Indigenous Australians’ quality of life through the delivery of accommodation and support services across our national network of hostels. Our national network of 47 accommodation facilities provide accommodation for Indigenous Australians who need to be away from home to access life-changing education, employment, health and other services. Our hostels are safe, comfortable, affordable and offer three meals each day during your stay. Our hostels are like a home away from home, so whatever your reason for staying with us – visiting friends, cultural business, studying, working or attending community events – you’ll always feel welcome. What’s it like working at Aboriginal Hostels?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees find the work at Aboriginal Hostels meaningful and rewarding, particularly in supporting First Nations communities with safe and affordable accommodation. Staff appreciate working with friendly colleagues in a collaborative environment and enjoy meeting people from diverse cultures.

However, there are some potential challenges, including inconsistent upper management support and limited engagement in ground-level operations. Remote locations can experience short-staffing during critical periods, and as a mature organisation, there are opportunities to develop more contemporary management standards. Some staff have noted that workload expectations can be high, particularly in technical roles.

    Great organisation to work for!
The good thingsSupportive, non-toxic environment where people are genuinely happy and collaborative. One of the most rewarding parts of the job we do at AHL is knowing that our work directly contributes to supporting local Indigenous First Nation communities.
The challengesOne of the key challenges is managing a highly diverse portfolio of facilities, including several in very remote locations, which requires careful coordination and adaptability.
