What's it like to be a Conveyancer?
Conveyancers prepare the legal documents that form part of real estate transactions, such as the purchase and sale of properties, settlements and title transfers.
Tasks and duties
- Conducting title searches to certify whether any debts relating to the property exist, and confirming the property belongs to the seller.
- Preparing contracts for selling real estate, advising on mortgage documentation and prepare lease documentation.
- Attending settlement on behalf of clients.
How to become a Conveyancer
You need to complete an approved qualification to become a Conveyancer in Australia. Licensing requirements vary between states and territories, so check with your local authority for specific details.
- 1.Complete an approved VET qualification, such as an Advanced Diploma of Conveyancing (BSB60220). Alternatively, you can complete an accredited law degree such as a Bachelor of Law.
- 2.Apply for a conveyancer’s licence with the authority in your state or territory.
- 3.Consider joining the Australian Institute of Conveyancers to access ongoing professional development programs, education and training.
