What’s it like working at Wattyl?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the supportive and friendly colleagues at Wattyl, with team members who are helpful and willing to assist one another. Reviewers also value working with great customers who are respectful and easy to work with, as well as the good work/life balance with reasonable working hours. The company provides opportunities for growth and skill development with regular internal promotions, and employees are proud of Wattyl's quality product range and strong brand recognition.

However, there are some potential challenges, including inconsistency in senior management direction and planning, which may affect clarity at store level. Training can be limited or inconsistent, particularly for new managers and team members, and stores can be short-staffed, creating additional pressure. Some staff have found that systems are outdated and complicate processes, though the company is transitioning to SAP. Additionally, communication from upper management could be improved to better align field observations with company direction, and sales targets and expectations can be challenging to meet within current resource constraints.

The good thingsNot many , your team members and the painters
The challengesVery serious culture / behaviour problems from state manager down to area manager - (state manager has now has been made redundant - great news ) along with so many employees just before Christmas time and not the first time this company has done this . This Company had 3 CEO’S in a matter of months - what does that tell you .

Give up while the going is good as the company will find a way break you down.
The good thingsThe company is loaded with people who care about their jobs and helping out the customers..
The challengesWhen senior management have there backs to the wall they come out swinging against the staff who are actually trying to make a difference, how about listening in real time to what is happening and get on the front foot and spend time on front line talking to customers . As the local area managers are too weak to pass the truth up .. The Sales Rep's work there fingers to there bones pushing sales and supporting the trade centres , only to be stopped in there tracks with there own management being either too busy saving there own skin or hiding in the shaddows...

Great customers and strong potential, but outdated systems, poor communication, and limited training
The good thingsPros: Generally great customers who are respectful, realistic, and easy to work with. Strong brand recognition and market presence. Opportunity for improvement and impact at store level.
The challengesCons: Outdated systems that make simple processes unnecessarily complicated. Limited and inconsistent training, particularly for new managers and team members. Poor communication from upper management, leading to low engagement and morale. Responsibility for previous mismanagement often shifted to stores and new managers. Employees often feel treated as numbers rather than valued contributors. Wattyl has great customers and strong potential, but outdated systems, poor communication, limited training, and resistance to change from long-tenured staff significantly impact morale and effectiveness at store level.
