What’s it like working at Total Tools?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Total Tools appreciate the supportive team environment, with colleagues who are friendly and work well together. Many enjoy interacting with the diverse customer base of tradies and learning about different trades. Staff value the opportunity to develop product knowledge through on-the-job training and supplier relationships. The company offers good work/life balance and flexibility, particularly for students, along with valuable employee discounts on tools and products.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Some employees have noted that management communication and consistency could be improved to better support staff. The inventory system can be challenging to learn initially, and clearer documentation would be helpful. As a franchise business, there can be variations in operations and coordination between stores. Workload can be demanding during busy periods or when stores are understaffed, and some employees feel that performance recognition and progression opportunities could be more clearly defined and merit-based.

Great job Great people but some challenges
The good thingsThis job is great for students who need to work and study, my experience has been amazing Total Tools was able to work around my timetable and provide me a comfortable level of shifts while still giving me time for myself the team i work with are all amazing and great to get along with
The challengeswhile i love the job im not blind to some issues they have, the inventory system is pretty daunting and confusing at the first couple of uses, sure it gets easier over time but your not really taught how to use certain things until you need to, i think Total Tools can benefit from making reference documents that show you how to do certain things. the promotional deals can be tough to explain to customer

Delivered results, but leadership and workplace culture failed to support performance.
The good thingsThe good things – What I enjoyed The trade and tool industry is dynamic and competitive, and I enjoyed working directly with customers and tradies. The role allowed me to use my sales skills and build relationships in the local market.
The challengesThe challenges – What could be improved Leadership alignment and internal communication require significant improvement. Performance and measurable results did not always appear to be the primary factor in recognition or opportunity. Decision-making processes lacked transparency, and high-performing staff may not feel consistently supported or valued. A stronger merit-based culture and clearer management structure would greatly improve the workplace environment.
