What’s it like working at Optus?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate the excellent Optus campus with its facilities and amenities, as well as the supportive colleagues and positive team culture. The work/life balance is generally good with flexible hours and hybrid working arrangements, and there are career development opportunities available. Employee benefits, including service discounts and competitive pay for high performers, are also valued.

However, there are some potential challenges, including an inconsistent management approach with variable support from senior leaders, high sales pressure in retail roles with unrealistic targets, and frequent restructures that can affect job security. Some teams experience heavy workloads with limited resources, and training can be informal, making it challenging to navigate the organisation initially. Additionally, some employees feel compensation could be more competitive.

Great experience helping customers, but poor area managers and excessive sales pressure created.
The good thingsgood people you get to know.
The challengesOne of the biggest challenges was the constant pressure to meet sales and compliance targets. Performance was heavily measured using foot traffic, including people who simply walked through the store as a shortcut without any intention of shopping. At the end of the day, staff were questioned about why compliance interactions had not been completed with these individuals, even when they had not stopped or engaged with the team. This created unrealistic expectations and added unnecessary pressure to the role. One of the biggest challenges was the lack of support from Area Managers. Instead of coaching and helping store teams improve, communication was often negative and focused only on sales results. There was constant pressure, with repeated comments that if sales didn't improve, rosters would be reviewed or CCTV footage would be checked to monitor staff interactions. Staff were also frequently told they were providing poor customer service simply because they hadn't made enough sales.
