The challengesUnfortunately, after 6 years of Managing, with a Bachelor of Education, and winning an Australian-Wide Award for Jurlique, I was 'over looked' for a "Training Coach Development' position, and noticed that certain 'less qualified' employees were 'given the opportunity' instead. This seemed to be evident in regards to 'Concept Stores' being treated incredibly different, than 'Concession Managed Department Stores'. Even the separate Area Managers- between 'Concept' & 'Department Stores' didn't 'get along'. There was an obvious real dislike between the two. This 'spilled down' to how the employees from 'Concept Stores' treated those employees from 'Department Stores'. An example: Ordering a new Uniform size, to be collected from the Concept Store, only to find out that the employees took your 'Order' and you were told to wear a 'left over huge size' - 3 sizes too large! What a joke! Another example: Managing at my counter, having the 'Concept Store Area Manager visit my 'Door', to 'stand back with her 'Concept Store Manager' and chat to each other (like they were spying/whispering) to see exactly 'what was I doing to generate such ongoing lead?' Not even saying 'Hello', there was an obvious huge dislike for Department Store Managers. Similarly, as an 'Area Manager Position' became available, I had one interview, but was 'Spoken Over' and not given any change to communicate in a respectful manner'- knowing that the 'Concept Store Area Manager' was interviewing me & she didn't like me, as I was achieving higher KPI results that her store, so, she 'shut me down' during this interview. Also, again, with another Area Manager position recently advertised during Covid, I was again over looked and in fact, did not even get a response from the company at all. Unprofessional.
Expect to work for this company and 'not get recognised' for your achievements in regards to 'No Career Development' at all. Even if you work EVERY weekend for 6 years and do not take a SINGLE day off! Negative Culture.
I do not recommend this job for anyone apart from 'Casuals' wanting to earn a bit of pocket money to get them through Uni/Study or whatever.
The pay is the lowest for surviving, as per 'Retail' Standards'. You bust yourself working weekends/overtime rates, just to reach $50,000 pa for a full time Manager. Underpaid/Over worked and no Rewards for Career Development.
