What’s it like working at Flower Power?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Flower Power appreciate their friendly and supportive colleagues, who create a positive team environment at store level. Many staff enjoy working outdoors surrounded by beautiful plants and greenery, and value the opportunities to learn about horticulture and plant care through on-the-job training. The flexible rosters help support work-life balance, and employees find satisfaction in customer interactions, helping people with their gardening needs. The generous staff discounts on plants and products are also well-received.

However, there are some potential challenges to consider. Multiple employees have noted concerns about management practices, particularly at senior levels, with leadership approaches varying across different stores. The role involves physical demands, including being on your feet for extended periods, heavy lifting, and working in various weather conditions. Some staff mention that heat and weather exposure can be challenging during summer months. Shift allocation for casual employees can be inconsistent, particularly during off-peak seasons. As with most retail environments, the role includes typical retail demands such as weekend work, busy seasonal periods, and occasional challenging customer interactions. Some employees also feel there could be improved communication and recognition from senior management.

Toxic workplace culture, autocratic and narcissistic management
The good thingsCan’t really say good things. There was a very handful of people I enjoyed working with but majority of staff are unapproachable due to toxic and autocratic environment.
The challengesWorkplace culture is a major concern. There appears to be a strong presence of cliques among staff, which can make the environment feel unwelcoming and exclusionary. In addition, there is a perception of favouritism, where certain employees receive preferential treatment over others. The environment, some workers and management are very toxic! There is a strong top-down hierarchy that creates a clear divide between management and staff. This separation can make communication feel one-sided and discourages collaboration or feedback from frontline employees. I really don’t know how other staff members would give this place 5 stars ! I would give it zero stars if I could.

    - Disappointing for a company that marketed itself as high quality.
The good thingsGoing home, going home.
The challenges- Management that knows what they are doing. They reward people that work above their contract without being paid. This is deemed as “hard work”. - Improving payroll systems that pay people properly.

Working at Flower Power is a rewarding experience, offering a supportive team, beautiful work environment, great staff discounts, learning opportunities, flexible rosters, and a strong sense of appreciation from management.
The good thingsBeing a Retail Sales Assistant at Flower Power has been such a positive and fulfilling experience. From day one, the team made me feel part of a warm, welcoming, and passionate group who genuinely care about plants, customers, and each other. Working in such a beautiful setting, surrounded by vibrant flowers and lush greenery, makes every day enjoyable. The generous staff discounts are a real bonus for anyone who loves gardening or styling their home, and there are so many opportunities to develop new skills and learn from knowledgeable horticulture experts. The management team is approachable, open-minded, and quick to acknowledge and reward effort, which makes you feel appreciated. The flexible rosters and focus on maintaining a healthy work-life balance are also a big plus. If you’re passionate about customer service, love working around plants, and want to join a respected, established company, Flower Power is a fantastic place to grow your career
The challengesAlthough it was rewarding the job did come with some challenges. The physical demands are tough, so make sure you have some good comfortable shoes. As a casual there is not always guaranteed hours during off-peak seasons but so far I have been welcomed back and my shift hours have increased in summer year after year.
