What’s it like working at Eldercare?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees appreciate the opportunity to care for residents in the older adult community, noting that residents are generally lovely and the work is rewarding. Many value the company values of Respect, Accountability and Connection, which are important to the business and lived by staff daily. Salary sacrifice packaging is available as a benefit, and the physical environment is well maintained with modern facilities and up-to-date equipment. Some employees have experienced supportive management who encourage feedback, provide career progression opportunities, and ensure high levels of education and training.

However, there are some potential challenges, including inconsistent management support with concerns about accountability, transparency, and recognition of staff efforts. Staffing levels can be challenging, with some employees noting they are short-staffed and that the use of agency staff affects team continuity. The workload can be demanding with time constraints and pressure to complete tasks, and expectations sometimes extend beyond role descriptions. Some employees have found opportunities for career progression to be limited, and the management structure has been described as top-heavy with concerns about frequent restructures and changing priorities.

Terrible. If you ate a 3 puppet you will fit right in.
The good thingsOn the whole the residents are lively.
The challengesThe Site Manager. He sits behind a desk all day, does not say hello to his staff and is a dreadful leader. I never saw him engage with a single resident. The lifestyle coordinator has an elevated opinion of herself also.

An unsupportive work environment with poor rostering practices and limited career progression
The good thingsSalary sacrifice packaging only
The challengesMy experience working in Eldercare was disappointing and disheartening. Despite long-term service and consistent effort, there were very limited opportunities for recognition or career progression, particularly for staff who are not from a local background. Hard work and commitment didn't seem to be genuinely valued by upper management. Support from management felt minimal, with little appreciation or constructive feedback provided. This created an environment where employees felt overlooked rather than encouraged to grow or contribute further. Rostering was another major concern. Shifts were sometimes cancelled without prior notice or explanation, and communication from the rostering team was often abrupt. In some cases, there was no apology or follow-up, which caused unnecessary stress and uncertainty around income and work stability. Overall, the workplace culture felt unsupportive and transactional, leaving staff feeling undervalued despite the demanding nature of the role.

Since leaving this organisation, my wellbeing has improved significantly.
The good thingsThe physical environment is well maintained, and there are staff who genuinely care about residents and their families.
The challengesThe management structure felt disproportionate and overly hierarchical with limited transparency and consistency. While there were some genuinely passionate staff, the overall culture lacked collaboration and support, which at times felt isolating. Plenty of activities focused on optics rather than outcomes. Expectations frequently extended beyond the role description, without adequate guidance or recognition. Staff turnover was high, and this appeared to impact continuity, morale, and workload sustainability. Greater professionalism, clearer role boundaries, and more supportive leadership would significantly improve the workplace experience.
