A company that loves it's past, but is uncertain and unwilling to engage with the future challenges. The good thingsThe pay was ok for flat rate at $66 p/h
The company jacket was warm.
The casuals on the crew were really good.
The challengesSite: Jundee, WA
Client: Northern Star Resources
#The lack of ambition within the company to seize contracts that are exclusively offered to them before going out to public tenure. They present a poor capability profile to the client, often backed up by client's observation of current fleet readiness, interactions across the site with DTMT workforce and overall personnel retention.
#The poorly maintained equipment, that suffers from a lifetime of management forcing the mechanics to band-aid fix problems, so they can take on more jobs with the client, and these problems get bigger and bigger.
#The same equipment is poorly service infield as DTMT delegate a random labour hire to drive the service truck. DTMT's eyes and ears on machinery status is delegated to people who feel the service truck job is a punishment; because they got promised they'd be swinging an excavator bucket or pushing out in a dozer. They're given half a day VOC by the last unfortunate and off they go.
#1 Long time employees actively undermine the supervisory staff. There seems to be an ongoing assumption that time in company outweighs a supervisors plan or time in company outweighs industry knowledge.
#2 DTMT project manager micromanages everything at Jundee, even undermining the supervisor, actively causing conflict with the workers and supervisor.
#3 DTMT employees, those who deem themselves long term, are even dismissive of directions, taskings and orders given by client's supervisors.
#Due to the above (#1,2,3), double and triple handling takes place regularly.
#The lack of safety and ongoing issue of placing people into dangerous situations to which they lack the experience to understand what they're doing / exposed to. Example: articulated haul truck working in the production pit without engine brakes, going up / down haul ramps loaded, with a green operator who is unaware of the mechanical problem and is unaware of what to do in an emergency.
#Overall a dismal understanding of surface and underground mining. This is a daily occurrence obstacle for DTMT and it's employees.
#DTMT personnel retention is poor, and therefore their knowledge pool is degraded.
#The white washing of safety issues and employees health. Example: 2 x Toyota HiAce vans have no door seals, you can physically insert your hand between the door and van body to reach inside.
