What’s it like working at Bed, Bath N' Table?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees enjoy working with the beautiful, high-quality products at Bed, Bath N' Table, which are easy to sell and well-received by customers. Many appreciate the friendly and supportive colleagues, forming strong bonds and lifelong friendships. Store managers are often praised for being kind and protective of their teams, and staff enjoy the creative aspects of visual merchandising and working with homeware, along with the staff discounts available.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about upper management and regional managers being unsupportive and overly focused on sales targets. KPI expectations can be difficult to achieve, and daily stock deliveries can be overwhelming to manage. The role can be physically demanding, and some employees have noted concerns about workplace safety in storerooms. Additionally, shift allocation can be inconsistent, career progression opportunities are limited, and the point-of-sale system is outdated.

I loved working here but store management roles may be challenging depending on your location.
The good things- Good in store team - Great products and discounts - Fun working environment - Day to day tasks of the role is enjoyable - Career progression is possible (I started as Assistant Store Manager and was later promoted to Store Manager)
The challenges- No upper management (3 state managers in 1 year) - Upper management doesn't take concerns seriously (One of my staff ended up passing probation when they weren't the right fit for the role, as this wasn't taken seriously and answered promptly due to state managers changing all the time) - Low salary range considering responsibilities

Lacking leadership and awareness of best practice on all levels
The good thingsCasual staff have strong bonds and friendships and look out for each other, customers genuinely like the product. If you are a people person and love linen and homewares, this will be why you stay in the job.
The challengesLack of leadership is disheartening. Poor recruitment practices has left our store without an assistant manager for over 12 mths (and counting), and understaffing in the casual pool has led to burnout and resignations from staff who would have otherwise stayed. Going to the storeroom is like daily combat. Stock is packed to the rafters and piled on the floor, falls from above, ladders are impeded in minimum width layout, have to crawl under shelving to find things. Staff have provided and installed their own racking in one storeroom, where it was just piles of product all over the floor. What?! Managers stick safety posters on the wall but there are no workplace inspections or training for managers. Senior managers say thank you for your concern if you bring up safety issues. The product packaging must be close to worst practice, with huge amounts of daily plastic waste generated from stock deliveries. Carry bags are plastic when most retailers have moved to paper based.

No matter how good and energetic a worker is, the managers just do not talk with respect.
The good thingsNothing is good. The management in the warehouse is extremely disrespectful.
The challengesOld machines, very less place inside the warehouse to work, management treats the casuals disrespectfully.
