What’s it like working at Adairs?

    AI summary of recent reviews

Employees at Adairs generally appreciate the quality of products they work with and value the positive relationships they build with their immediate team members. The company offers staff discounts and potential for commission, which are viewed as positive aspects of working there.

However, several challenges are consistently mentioned, including managing heavy stock volumes and workload, particularly during peak periods. The high performance expectations and KPI targets can create a competitive environment, while some employees report difficulties with management support and maintaining work-life balance. The demanding nature of the role, especially regarding stock management and sales targets, appears to be a significant concern for many staff members.

    could have been great
The good thingsthe customers and staff
The challengesThe manager is on a power trip and causes unnecessary stress; she doesn't adequately train new staff unless she likes them and sets staff up to fail in very sneaky ways and humiliates them in front of customers

High store manager turnover from burn out, extremely heavy work load, avoid!
The good thingsI liked a lot of the product.
The challengesWorkload: Unrealistic and unsustainable. The stock volume alone makes the role unmanageable. Large stores receive around 100 boxes a week, with 100 boxes A DAY during peak. Back rooms become unsafe, shelves bow under the weight. No amount of prior retail management experience prepares you for this. The toll on your mental and physical health is severe. Area Managers: Your success depends entirely on your area manager. At Belrose I received minimal & confusing training, had little contact, and support. I was repeatedly ignored when asking for help and left to run a large store as the only full-time employee - no assistant manager, despite promises. The role is set up for burnout. The job is physically exhausting (20k+ steps daily, up ladders). Store Manager turnover is high for a reason. Ask yourself why Adairs is always recruiting managers? If you take this role, document everything — training, conversations, staffing, tasks, photos, and emails. When issues arise, evidence is essential.

Toxic work environment. Upper management is horrible, don’t treat team well
The good thingsTeam discount is the only nice thing
The challengesUnrealistic KPIs, stores too full with overflowing stock.
