What’s it like working at Accoras?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Accoras stands out for its strong emphasis on work-life balance, offering benefits such as 9-day fortnights, birthday leave, and Christmas period leave. The organisation is characterised by a supportive and friendly culture that prioritises employee wellbeing, along with flexible working arrangements. Employees particularly value the opportunity to make a positive impact in the community through their work, and many appreciate the supportive team environment.

As a not-for-profit organisation, Accoras faces some operational challenges, including limited funding and resources which can affect service delivery and competitive salaries. The hierarchical structure and centralised decision-making process can sometimes impact efficiency, while managing high service demand with available resources presents ongoing challenges. Some employees also indicate that processes and change management procedures could be enhanced.

They will try to make you believe that they value their staff, but they will make changes to your work/program without consulting anyone.
The good thingsExtra leave over Christmas and on your birthday. Worked with some great people at the start of my time there.
The challengesBig staff turnover including several new managers coming through in a short amount of time. Changes were made without discussing with staff who had years of experience working in the program. New work tasks were assigned to me without being qualified to do these, which increased stress. No exit interview when I left the organisation.

HR told me I wasn’t legally allowed to take my annual leave before using up my paid parental leave. I had just given birth & had X amount of A/L approved before paid parental leave would kick in. Once I announced the birth of my child HR told me I couldn’t take A/L without the government funded paid parental leave being used first. Let that sink in. I fought it, and was right. You can use your A/L prior to the paid parental leave kicking in (for any potential future Mums reading this). I quit due to my poor treatment from management. What that did to my mental health at such a vulnerable time of my life, I will never forget.
The good thingsA day off on you’re birthday
The challengesPoor management. A culture of popularity (you don’t even need a degree in you’re field as long as you’re outgoing) Biggest challenge was a lack of knowledge from their own HR Dept. They didn’t understand that I was entitled to my annual leave prior to taking paid parental leave. Wild

I felt valued here and that my manager always listened. Through ups a downs of change or growth like any NGO, we always remember the bigger picture. My circumstances changed but i would recommend here, and working for or with the same people again.
The good thingsWork flexibility and trust, good relationships, shared purpose and, management who take the time to listen
The challengesCompeting against other high salaried organisations with greater financial perks and incentives
