What's it like to be a Trainer?
A Trainer, sometimes also called an Assessor, is someone who develops and delivers training to students, and assesses their course results to award them qualifications. They work to ensure that the qualifications people earn meet contractual and compliance requirements for earning those qualifications, sometimes in accordance with a governmental framework.
Tasks and duties
- Preparing and delivering courses, ensuring they are engaging for students.
- Developing and implementing individual training plans for students that need it.
- Conducting assessments and supporting students who are ill or can’t make it for personal reasons.
- Completing and maintaining training records and assessment documentation, passing along to students and employers, educational institutions or government agencies when necessary.
- Recording and reporting on student attendance and progress throughout the course.
- Maintaining current training and qualifications.
- Staying up to date with rules and regulations.
How to become a Trainer
To work as a Trainer in the vocational training system, which includes TAFEs and Registered Training Organisations, the minimum qualification required is a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116).
- 1.The industry standard for working in an RTO is a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (TAE40116), commonly referred to as the “Train the Trainer” course. You can find this course at TAFE and private colleges.
- 2.You will need a police clearance and Working With Children Check if you plan to train students under 18 years of age.
