What's it like to be a Barber?
Barbers cut, style and shave hair. They usually work in barbershops. In addition to cutting hair, they can also perform other grooming tasks related to the face, scalp, beard and moustache.
Tasks and duties
- Trimming, cutting, shaping and tapering hair using scissors, razors, clippers and combs.
- Providing facial hair maintenance and custom shaves.
- Performing other grooming services, such as shampooing, styling and colouring.
- Cleaning and sterilising tools and equipment such as scissors, combs and clippers.
- Ordering barbershop supplies.
How to become a Barber
To become a Barber, you’re usually required to complete both a formal training component, as well as an apprenticeship or traineeship.
- 1.Complete a Certificate III in Barbering (SHB30516). You’ll learn to use a full range of well-developed sales and consultation skills as well as technical and operational skills.
- 2.While completing your formal training, you should work in a barbershop as an apprentice. You’ll get the opportunity to learn different techniques from experienced barbers.
