Looking to start a career behind the scenes in live performance?

QPAC is seeking enthusiastic and motivated people to join our Production Services team as Technical Production Trainees.

About Us

Queensland Performing Arts Centre (QPAC) is one of Australia’s leading cultural destinations and the proud home of live performance in Queensland. Each year, more than 1.85 million people experience over 1,200 performances across our iconic theatres, showcasing everything from blockbuster musicals and ballet to theatre, music, comedy and contemporary performance.

About the Role

This 12-month traineeship combines practical, on-the-job experience at one of Australia’s leading performing arts centres with formal study towards a Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services.

Working alongside QPAC’s experienced technical professionals, you’ll gain hands-on experience across areas including staging, lighting, wardrobe and audio and vision, while learning how major live productions come together behind the scenes.

You don’t need to be an experienced technician. We’re looking for people with a genuine interest in technical production who enjoy practical work, are keen to learn and want to build a career in the performing arts.

In supporting our ongoing commitment to Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander employment, one of these trainee positions is identified. It is a genuine occupational requirement that the position is held by an Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander person, and the exemption in section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 applies.

In this role, you will:

  • Complete a Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services through a nominated Registered Training Organisation (RTO).

  • Participate in formal training and complete the required assessments and practical activities.

  • Gain practical experience across staging, lighting, wardrobe and audio and vision.

  • Assist QPAC technicians with the preparation, setup, operation and pack-down of live productions and events.

  • Support the delivery of technical services for QPAC's internal and external clients.

  • Work alongside experienced Production Services professionals to understand and implement technical production plans.

  • Develop practical technical skills while learning how a major performing arts venue operates.

About You

You don't need extensive industry experience to apply. We're interested in your enthusiasm, willingness to learn and interest in building a career in technical production.

  • Demonstrated interest in Technical Production and a desire to explore and develop a career in the Performing Arts.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to communicate effectively and work in a team with a professional and positive manner.

  • The ability to plan and coordinate work effectively to complete assigned tasks and meet team and production standards.

  • A demonstrated ability to take direction and apply acquired knowledge to satisfy the requirements of assigned tasks.

  • The physical capability to frequently perform the inherent requirements of the role including manual work tasks that may involve strenuous activity and repetitive actions.

Availability Requirements

This is a full-time position working 38 ordinary hours per week across a seven-day roster.

Due to the nature of live performance, you will need to be available to work a variety of day, evening and weekend shifts in line with QPAC's performance and operational requirements.

Recruitment Process

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a Group Assessment Day at QPAC as part of the recruitment process. Candidates must be available to attend on 17th November 2026. Further details provided to successful shortlisted candidates.
