Advocates Online are a specialist advocacy organisation supporting current and former Australian Defence Force (ADF) members and their families. Our work centres on guiding veterans through the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (DVA) system, helping them access the compensation, treatment, and entitlements they are legally entitled to under Commonwealth legislation.
This is a professional, compliance-driven role requiring experience, sound judgment, and emotional maturity. We are seeking advocates who understand both the technical complexity and human responsibility involved in this work.
About the Role – DVA Advocate
As a DVA Advocate, you will support veterans and their families, many of whom may be experiencing physical injury, mental health challenges, or significant life transitions.
Key responsibilities include:
Providing accurate, compliant guidance throughout the DVA compensation and entitlement claims process
Preparing, lodging, and managing claims under relevant legislation, including MRCA, DRCA, and VEA
Interpreting legislation, medical evidence, and service records to support well-prepared claims
Communicating complex information clearly, respectfully, and with empathy
Managing documentation, correspondence, and follow-ups to reduce client stress
Working collaboratively within an experienced advocacy team to ensure best-practice outcomes
This role requires exceptional attention to detail, strong written communication skills, and the ability to remain calm and professional in emotionally charged situations.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must demonstrate:
Direct experience in DVA advocacy, compensation claims, or a closely related role
Practical knowledge of DVA legislation and entitlements (MRCA, DRCA, VEA)
Strong written capability and confidence working with legislation and evidence
High organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple claims concurrently
Professional judgment, discretion, and a strong compliance mindset
Compassion, emotional intelligence, and respect when supporting veterans and families
