Who we are

Nexa Training is a small, independent training organisation at Banyo on Brisbane's northside. We run first aid and workplace safety courses for the public and for businesses, and we've built the whole place around one idea: people should walk out able to do the thing, not just holding a certificate.

So classes are small, usually 6 to 10. The materials are ours, built in-house and improved every month. Enrolment, assessment records and certificates run through an LMS we've set up properly, so the admin mostly takes care of itself. And the founder trains as well as runs the business, so you'll be working with someone who knows what a good day in the room feels like and what gets in the way of one.

We're young and growing, which is the honest reason this role exists. You'd be our first trainer. The way you teach will become the way Nexa teaches, and when we add more trainers, you'll be the one showing them how it's done here.

The rare thing we're after

Here's what we've learned: plenty of people hold a TAE and a first aid certificate. Very few can walk into a room of ten strangers who'd rather be somewhere else and, by lunch, have all ten of them caring whether they get it right.

That's a rare skill. It's not the same as knowing first aid, and it's not the same as being a confident speaker. It's a mix of real experience with people in trouble, the instinct to notice who's lost before they say so, and the ability to tell someone they haven't got it yet without flattening them.

If you're one of those people, you probably already know it. You've had students come up afterwards. You've been told "that was the first one of these I actually enjoyed." You've quietly thought you could run a better course than the one you were handed. This is the job where you get to.

Where that experience comes from matters less than that you have it. Nursing, paramedicine, emergency services, defence, remote or industrial first aid, or a few years already training first aid. All of those work.

What you'd teach

First aid, mostly: Provide First Aid, CPR, First Aid in an Education and Care Setting, and the asthma and anaphylaxis units, at Banyo and sometimes onsite for a client. That's your calendar from week one.

As you settle in, two more things come your way with proper handovers: Low Voltage Rescue, and marking the online assessments for our QBCC managerial course. Low Voltage Rescue sounds electrical, and the setting is, but the skill you're teaching is CPR and a safe rescue. The QBCC marking is online, steady rather than heavy, and the LMS tells you when something's waiting.

White Card is coming later and may get its own trainer. If you'd like it, say so; if not, no problem.

Between courses you'll help make all of these better, because you'll be the one who sees what lands and what doesn't.

The straight version

• Small groups, so you actually get to teach.

• Materials you'll be proud to use, and a real say in them.

• Admin handled by systems, not by you.

• A permanent salaried role, not a casual roster that vanishes in January.

• Time and money for the professional development you need to stay current.

• A founder who's direct, expects the same back, and would rather hear about a problem this week than at the Christmas party.

• Some early starts and some driving. A business that's still building, so things change and you'll have a hand in changing them.

The paperwork

TAE40122 Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or TAE40116 with the upgrade units, or a higher adult education qualification). Current HLTAID011 Provide First Aid. A Blue Card or willingness to get one. A driver's licence. If you're most of the way through your TAE and on track, apply anyway and tell us where you're at.

How to apply

No cover letter. Apply through Seek with your CV. If we like what we see, we'll send you a link to record a one-minute intro on your phone, the way you'd introduce yourself to a class at 8:30 on a Monday morning. Kitchen, ute, wherever. Lighting and editing don't matter, and neither does how you look. If video's really not your thing, a voice memo does the job. We just want to meet you before we meet you.

From there, we'll invite you out to Banyo for an interview, in person if you can. We'll show you the room, you'll meet the people you'd be working with, and you'll get an honest look at what you'd be walking into.
