Rex Minerals, part of MACH Metals, is an Australian mining company developing the Hillside Copper-Gold Project on the Yorke Peninsula in South Australia. About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Metallurgist to support process optimisation, metallurgical performance and continuous improvement initiatives across the Hillside Copper-Gold Project.

Reporting to the Superintendent Metallurgy, this role provides technical metallurgical expertise across processing operations to support process, production and engineering activities, while driving safe, efficient and reliable plant performance. The role focuses on monitoring and optimising metallurgical processes related to the copper-gold concentrator facility and its supporting unit operations. As a greenfield project, the role will initially focus on supporting detailed design, operational readiness, systems and procedures, and commissioning of the processing plant.

This role will initially be based in Adelaide before transitioning to our Hillside project, near Ardrossan, South Australia, and offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to site start-up and ongoing operations of a major greenfield project.


What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • Supporting safe, efficient and reliable metallurgical plant performance across processing operations.

  • Participating and supporting detailed design, HAZOP’s, and reviews.

  • Lead, support, and execute commissioning activities alongside construction and commissioning teams.

  • Monitoring, analysing and reviewing metallurgical performance, recovery, throughput and reagent consumption, and providing recommendations to optimise plant performance.

  • Conducting metallurgical investigations, test work and process optimisation initiatives to improve plant performance.

  • Lead and support plant trials, operational readiness, commissioning and ramp-up activities across processing operations.

  • Assisting with the development and optimisation of operating philosophies, procedures and metallurgical standards.

  • Lead and support shutdown planning and maintenance activities through metallurgical inspections, analysis and technical recommendations.

  • Development and execution of metallurgical accounting systems and reporting.

  • Coaching, mentoring and providing technical guidance to Graduate Metallurgists, Metallurgists, metallurgical technicians, and operational personnel.


About You

  • Tertiary qualifications in Metallurgy, Minerals Processing, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.

  • 5+ years' experience within a base metal mineral processing operation, including experience in a leadership role.

  • Expertise in comminution, flotation, filtration, and other metallurgical processes.

  • Experience in operational readiness and commissioning activities within mineral processing projects will be highly regarded.

  • Strong understanding of metallurgical process design, optimisation and troubleshooting.

  • Advanced problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to analyse complex data and recommend practical solutions.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in metallurgical accounting, processing studies, project management, and budgeting, forecasting and cost control.

  • Excellent communication, leadership and mentoring skills, with the ability to build effective cross-functional relationships.
