The Role

Waratah is introducing a central intake process across its counselling, advocacy and outreach services. Following initial referral screening and handover, the Intake Officer will complete the formal intake assessment, assess each client's needs and risks, identify the appropriate service pathway and recommend priority.

Reporting to the Clinical Risk and Compliance Lead and based in Bunbury, you will conduct intake by telephone, video or face to face; complete risk, safety and needs assessments, including CRARMF where required; undertake brief safety planning; confirm consent, safe contact and relevant guardianship or legal information; maintain active waitlists; coordinate standard counselling allocations; and support advocacy and combined-service intake within delegation.

You will work independently within Waratah's procedures, keep clear records in Tacklit, Jotform and SHIP, monitor demand, wait times and service capacity, and help establish consistent intake processes. This role does not carry an ongoing counselling, advocacy or case-management caseload.

About you

You can complete a thorough intake assessment, make clear decisions and explain and record how you reached them. You can work independently, communicate clearly with people who may be distressed and manage competing priorities. You will bring:

• A degree in social work, psychology or counselling and substantial relevant experience; or extensive relevant intake, assessment and triage experience.

• Demonstrated experience completing formal intake, risk, safety and needs assessments and triage in family and domestic violence, sexual assault, mental health or community services.

• Demonstrated ability to determine client priority and service pathways, manage active waitlists, assess service capacity, coordinate fair allocations, document decisions and recognise when senior escalation is required.

• Strong communication, organisation and recordkeeping skills, including the ability to work independently with clients, service providers and statutory agencies and use client-management and data systems accurately.

• Desirable: CRARMF training or experience, knowledge of South West referral and crisis-response pathways, or experience across counselling and advocacy intake.

• A current unrestricted driver's licence, required screening checks and capacity to travel as required are conditions of employment.
