What’s it like working at Transdev?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees appreciate the supportive and collaborative colleagues at Transdev, along with quality training programmes and modern equipment. Office-based staff particularly value the excellent work/life balance and positive culture where individuals are treated respectfully. The company also offers job security through full-time positions.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about management experience and communication, which could be enhanced across departments. Drivers note high pressure from tight route timings and demanding schedules, whilst rostering practices and schedule flexibility present ongoing considerations. Some employees also feel that career development opportunities and salary levels could be improved to better match expectations.

    The good thingsnothing
The challengesInconsistent Standards: The assessment criteria change frequently, making it difficult to understand expectations. Lack of Structured Curriculum: There appears to be no clear curriculum, and the training feels rushed, as if the primary goal is simply to push trainees through rather than ensure they are properly qualified. Perceived Bias: There seems to be a disparity in how trainees are treated based on their learning speed, which creates an unfair learning environment. Lack of Support: I feel that I am not receiving the necessary guidance or mentorship to succeed in this role.

Unrealistic recruitment promises, poorly managed workplace, staff turnover, punitive culture.
The good thingsSaying hello to everyone
The challengesThe depot suffers from poor communication, weak leadership, and a stressful work environment. Many drivers experience a punitive rather than supportive culture, and staff turnover remains high as employees leave for better conditions elsewhere. The advertised salary of $75,000–$130,000 does not reflect the reality for many drivers, who report earning closer to $50,000–$60,000 per year. Many new employees wait months for uniforms, and the fact that numerous drivers are not wearing company uniforms highlights the level of dissatisfaction within the workforce. Significant improvements in management, communication, and employee support are needed.

Hectic training. Never follow their own guidelines. You are at their mercy.
The good thingsNothing. Work thing to work for.
The challenges They never follow their own planned rostering. You are not allowed to question them as a new employee. They don't have any fatigue management plan for their own rotating roster.

    BEST JOB I EVER HAD!
The good thingsI had a great experience working with Transdev. The company maintains a strong focus on safety, professionalism, and customer service, which made me proud to be part of the team. Management was supportive, approachable, and committed to ensuring drivers had the tools and training needed to perform their roles effectively. The work environment was structured and safety-driven, with clear procedures and expectations. I appreciated the teamwork among colleagues and respect shown toward drivers and staff. Transdev values reliability and punctuality, which helped me grow professionally and maintain high standards in my work. Overall, Transdev is a reputable and well-organised company that provides stable employment and opportunities to develop skills in the transport industry. Still the BEST JOB I ever had!
The challengesWith some improvements in communication, scheduling consistency, and developmental pathways, Transdev could further strengthen its already solid work environment.

School kids were quite stressful. Otherwise, it was a pretty good job.
The good thingsThe training and trainers were good. The electric buses were new, so they were nice to drive. Buses were reasonably well maintained.
The challengesSome of the buses were quite old. The management were not very easy to get on with.

Worst driver turnover of any depot I've worked at, training classes every fortnight, not hard to see why as management pretend to care initially. I had a pretty decent experience with Transdev John Holland especially with my daughter being in the NICU upon birth where they tried their best to accommodate dealing with that but unfortunately Transdev Qld a different story and pushing myself for two and a half months whilst infected with influenza b meant nothing. Even following company policy to try and deescalate a situation by moving (but not physically touching or swearing at her) an unruly schoolchild causing a disturbance from a route service to their dedicated school bus not far behind your location you will still be ridiculed even though you cannot safely operate the vehicle in this manner with shouting and screaming happening plus avoiding anything physical occurring. Fyi girl was lying down at stop not even ready but I patiently waited for her after passing by a short distance
The good thingsDepot facilities weren't too bad and most colleagues tried to help where they could which was very helpful moving from interstate in terms of learning the areas. The Mobime and Mytransdev apps are great unless you work for Transdev Qld where your sick leave will never show leaving you to flog yourself for two and a half months with influenza b not knowing when you've actually accrued enough hours for a day or two! Given a roster line although never told or shown any of the shifts
The challenges Given false information during onboarding process which they delayed on me when I was trying to relocate well before wife's due date regarding a day off during the week to work the Saturday instead as very important to me with two baby daughters one of which born via emergency c-section. Tried to have a discussion with rostering department but he just left the room, this then proceeded with no other weekend shifts than what was assigned to me three weeks out when I asked for a later start to spend time with family in morning. Before resignation I was accused of removing a non fare paying schoolgirl that was causing a disturbance after placing her feet on the seat when boarding and having a passenger say she sit properly during a route service even when cctv/sketchy audio showed otherwise, accusation of not contacting OCC (false) called back well after female got off. Queried what else was I to do during situation and false claim? Met with silence/no answer even when suspended with pay

Toxic Work Culture Toxic work environment. Management are not qualified for their roles and it shows day after day. They say they value their staff but all they care about is the bottom line.

Don’t have high expectations but it used to be a good job
The good thingsManagement has no or limited experience in Bus Operations. They already lost contracts that they had for more than 10 years. They worry about themselves not to loose bonuses and contracts.
The challengesManagers are of limited bus driving experience. Because these jobs are from the old Sydney Buses you might have a better work experience and join the union you can not afford not to.

Transdev are leading the way in how employees should be treated (they walk the walk, not just talk the talk) and I am proud to work for such a wonderful company.
The good thingsThe culture at Transdev is one of the best that I have worked in. Everyone is treated as an equal and respectfully. The work life balance is excellent.
The challengesLike any accounting role, we have our busy times at month end, during budgets and forecasts, and at year end. However, everyone in my team roles their sleeves up to get the job done and are really responsive.

Stressful, degrading and made to feel like you and your job do not matter.

The challengesAlways made to do the work of other departments almost every day, inadequate training and provided equipment, management who don’t listen and treat your grievances like a joke

Happy in this stable job, not a lot of stress, paid appropriately for the expectations of the role.
The good thingsThe company/ job is secure as it is transport, was not affected at all by Covid in terms of less work or hours, it was business a usual. The wage is fair for the work you are asked to do, some roles are paid extremely well.
The challengesOther team members complain about the company/ job however don't look for other work because they are paid well here. Could do without the negativity considering no-one lost work over covid when a lot of other companies did.

Transdev is one of the worst bus companies in Australia .
The good thingsThe only thing slightly positive is I could work on plenty of weekends.
The challengesAll their route timing is far too tight and all the shifts are not flexible . Management doesn`t respect drivers .If anything happens it`s automatically the driver`s fault and this is stressful .

TDMS is managed by unqualified and highly unprofessional senior management, who mainly come from a trade back grounds. They sign you up for one role and get you to do half a dozen roles and still complain, all the while themselves getting undeserving promotions. Unfortunately, they have a HR department which maintains a blind eye towards all of this. Worst place I had to work at by far.
The good thingsAbsolutely nothing to note

A good job but you will always be looking over your shoulder.
The good thingsCompany hires as full time where others hire as casual. Your workmates will share their knowledge & experiences .
The challengesTransdev hide behind their own PR. They don't tolerate any negative feedback on their driver app & take every opportunity to offload drivers they don't like. A very high turnover of personnel.
