What’s it like working at Sylvanvale?

    AI summary of recent reviews
Employees find working with clients to be the most rewarding aspect of their roles at Sylvanvale, consistently describing the people they support as amazing. Staff appreciate the meaningful, purpose-driven work and the supportive relationships with colleagues, noting strong team camaraderie at the local level. Many also value the flexible working arrangements available to accommodate personal needs.

However, there are some potential challenges, including concerns about management practices and disconnect between senior leadership and frontline staff. Some employees have noted that workplace culture can be challenging at senior levels, with staff sometimes feeling undervalued. Staffing levels can be stretched with high turnover, and career progression opportunities may be limited. Additionally, training and onboarding could be more structured for new employees.

    Toxic culture and little benefits
The good thingsWorking for an organisation that supports vulnerable individuals.
The challengesHead office culture is toxic - there are serious issues with micromanagement and the surveillance of staff. They advertise flexibility and work-life balance but do not deliver. Salary is low, and benefits are constantly being taken away from staff.

Good luck. You’ll need it more than career progression, support or flexibility.
The good thingsConvenient location for anyone in the Shire, which is probably the strongest selling point.
The challengesStaff are pushed to leave positive reviews to drown out genuine criticism and manufacture a better public image. Senior management is condescending, dismissive and disconnected from staff. Employees are excluded from decisions, treated like children and blamed for problems rather than leadership taking accountability. There is little genuine flexibility, almost no opportunity for career progression or meaningful pay growth, and staff are closely monitored, including time away from their desks. The knowledge is quite limited from higher management, No learning opportunities. People & Culture offers little support, and raising concerns can feel like they are turned back on you. Good employees leave regularly with little acknowledgement or effort from executives to understand why. A new office cannot fix poor leadership, a toxic culture and a lack of respect for employees. Staff are monitored down to the minute, creating a controlling environment where even brief time away is scrutinised.

The good thingsWorking for a purpose driven, values based organisation. Opportunity for professional development, career progression and growth. The people we support.

I wish I had left earlier than I did, would've saved me time in therapy.
The good thingsI met amazing clients.
The challengesThis organisation is degrading, unsupportive and money hungry. I have never felt more vulnerable in a job. There is a massive safety risk to clients and frontline staff.

Valuable learning opportunity, albeit not entirely in a positive way
The good things- Limited difficulty in negotiating a fair SCHADS award level (re: years of experience) - There is an abundance of work across the company
The challenges- Very hard to manipulate your hours to ensure full time work, and compliance with the SCHADS requirements. Very little support to achieve this, despite of \"attempts\" at pushing staff to all head towards full-time hours - Staff are encouraged to seek out advancement, but stifled with promises but lack of action when doing so - There is a series of culture problems within the company that go unaddressed, and have no place in the disability sector
