Why do managers always ask for referees before giving someone a job? I recently applied for work and the manager asked me for referee details. I didn’t have any referees ready, and they told me I couldn’t start work without them. I understand companies want to check experience and trust, but it can be hard for people who are new, changing jobs, or don’t have strong connections yet. Has anyone else experienced this? Why are referees so important to employers in Australia?
