Cover Letter or not to cover letter? Based on my experience, both as a HR admin, and as a candidate, is the accompanying cover letter a thing of the past? with available technology now, and time constraints - do we really read/need them?

I’m curious. Do recruiters want or even care about cover letters for job application? I feel like before AI you could stand out by writing a good cover letter but nowadays anyone can just use chatgpt and word vomit out some generic rubbish. Keen to hear your thoughts.

Honestly, I’m starting to feel like I’m going crazy. I’ve been actively job hunting, applying everywhere, big venues, small businesses, anything in hospitality. Cairns. Over 10 years of experience, I speak three languages, I know how this industry works… and yet, nothing. Not even a reply. Not even a “no”. What’s going on right now? Is anyone actually hiring, or are we all just sending applications into the void?Would genuinely appreciate any insight, advice, or even just to hear pareers.
