Tasks and duties
- Researching suppliers.
- Comparing and evaluating supplier offers.
- Negotiating contract terms and pricing.
- Tracking orders and ensure smooth delivery.
- Assessing and monitoring the quality of products.
- Entering data into order portals and customer relationship management systems.
- Monitoring stock levels.
- Placing orders as needed.
- Coordinating with warehouse staff to ensure storage requirements are met.
- Working within set budgets.
- Coordinating logistics.
How to become a Purchasing Officer
Formal qualifications are not required to work as a Purchasing Officer. However, a qualification may be an advantage when developing your skills and knowledge.
- Consider completing a VET qualification, such as a Certificate IV in Procurement and Contracting (PSP40616), Diploma of Procurement and Contracting (PSP50616) or Diploma of Logistics (TLI50221).
- Alternatively, you may prefer to broaden your skills by completing a Bachelor of Business (Logistics and Supply Chain Management).
- Gain experience in an entry-level role in procurement, inventory control or buying.
