What's it like to be a Financial Officer?
Financial Officers oversee and manage an organisation’s financial resources so that revenue and budget goals can be met and compliance requirements can be maintained.
Tasks and duties
- Providing guidance to the finance team and management about budgets, accounting and tax regulations, and financial policies.
- Undertaking regular financial analysis in order to identify, address and resolve issues, disputes or variances.
- Overseeing daily, monthly and yearly transactions, process invoices and track investments.
How to become a Financial Officer
To gain employment as a Financial Officer, a diploma-level qualification in finance, commerce, economics, accounting or business is usually required at a minimum.
- 1.Undertake formal qualifications, such as a Diploma of Accounting (FNS50217), a Bachelor of Commerce or Bachelor of Business.
- 2.Gain experience in the field, together with knowledge of specialist software programs such as QuickBooks, SAP, Tableau and Xero.
- 3.With experience and the possibility of further study, Financial Officers can work up to becoming Finance Managers or Chief Financial Officers.
